The Board of Directors requested that information about Alternative Education be reviewed in conjuction with the proposed changes in the Discipline Policy.

Administration has had no success in working with local post-secondary schools to date. MGT has responded to our request for options, and those are attached. The value of having this information available to the Board and the Administration as we plan for the 21st Century student is such that it seems reasonable to consider the options provided by MGT. MGT will hold their proposal open at the quoted prices until May 13, 2009.

3. New Business

Overview: After careful consideration by a number of WCSD staff members, it has been decided that Middle and Secondary Language Arts materials provided by Pearson-Prentice Hall Publishers are the most appropriate. WCSD Resources Required: Monies available in the 2008-09 budget for textbooks/periodicals. Administrative Recommendation: That Pearson-Prentice Hall materials be set up for review at Central Office, and information be forwarded to the Finance Committee in May regarding the purchase process.

Attached are listings of the courses which have fewer than 12 students scheduled, both individual courses and combined classes, that the administration feels are of great enough value to the students that they be offered in the 2009-2010 school year. Also, as requested, is a listing of courses which have fewer than 12 students that the administration feels do not need to be offered.

The WCSD has contracted with IU5 for Cyber Services in the past, and administration recommends entering into the 2009-2010 Cyber Services agreement with IU5. The contract amount of $8000 is an increase. For the past two years, the district has paid $7500 for the same services. Costs of running the program have increased. The contract, if approved, would run from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. If approved, the contract requires IU5 to provide the district with orientation sessions for students, curriculum support, tracking of student progress assistance, marketing assistance, and distribution and support of computer hardware to students. In return, the district would be obligated to provide communication in key areas, liaisons with IU5, administer PSSA tests, provide student services, market the program to appropriate students, and pay registration fees for services provided to students, and to assist in the return of equipment to IU5. This agreement has been revised for this school year, but the content of the agreement has not changed. This accurately reflects what we are doing at this time.

4. Informational Items

The Middle School Principals met and considered numerous criteria for evaluation. We are still working to complete a final format for presentation, but attached is a document that reflects the criteria that we are intending to focus upon.

The CIT Committee has asked that Smart boards remain as an item on the agenda. I have attached, for your information, some teacher responses from a survey that we recently administered. The survey was administered to teachers that have had a Smart board prior to this last round of awards. The attachment for this item contains responses directly related to teacher oberservation of increased student engagement.
