It is the recommendation that the WCSD AEDY program conform to meet the current AEDY guidelines established by Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Students within the program have to have the ability to transition back to the regular classroom if the academic and behavioral goals are met.
Summary:
According to Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth 24 P.S. § 1901-1906 C, " Programs must have in place a formal, documented process for periodic review and evaluation of each student's academic and behavioral goals to determine the appropriateness for return to the regular classroom. This review must occur, at a minimum, at the end of every semester the student is in the program, but may occur more frequently at the program's discretion. The purpose of this review is to determine whether the student is ready to return to the regular classroom. The review team should consist of AEDY Program administrators, teachers, counselors and a representative from the sending school's administration. In addition, the parent, student, and any other advocate(s) with knowledge of the child's history should be involved in this process. The review will include an evaluation of the student's academic and behavioral progress."
PDE mandates, " The AEDY Referral/Intake Documentation must be utilized by any LEA placing a student in an AEDY Program. The AEDY Program (public or private) must ensure that all information is present PRIOR to accepting a student. All procedures must be implemented and all information must be documented on this form and available for review during any monitoring or audit proceeding. It has been created to ensure that all required procedures have been implemented prior to the referral and acceptance of a student in an AEDY Program."

The district is required to provide dental examinations to students in grade K or 1, grade 3, and grade 7. This item was brought to the Board at the meeting of December 3, 2012, and contracts were approved. "Dental examinations shall be conducted with sufficient care and detail to command dental respect and to provide an educational experience for the child and his parents." (28 PA Code § 23.3) It was found that the educational component listed as Exhibit A of the original contract was in need of revisions. This section of the contract has been rewritten to more accurately reflect requirements. The attached agreements will ensure the required services are being provided to the students.

This item was brought to the CIT meeting in October, at which time it was decided that a number of math planned instruction name changes would be moved to the Board for approval, but the committee felt that the Applied Math IV course name being changed to Mathematics of Finance did not seem suitable for the course content. The administration is suggesting that the course be named Money Management.
